Tap

The NZAMD Tap syllabi consists of the Original Tap syllabus based on the English style, brought to New Zealand by Gladys Tonkins, NZAMD Founder, and the new American Tap syllabus choreographed by Keith Clifton from the USA.  Suitable for 7 year olds to adults.

While most teachers now choose to work with the American Tap, both syllabi offer students and teachers the necessary training and progression to become an accomplished tap dancer. We are proud to have NZAMD trained tap dancers performing in theatres around the world.

The new American Tap consists of barre work, centre work, and set or teachers’ own choreographed dances. Keith Clifton’s choreography develops an exciting rhythmical array of beats throughout the levels, taking NZAMD tap well into the 21st century.

The Original Tap syllabus includes barre work, centre components, steps, breaks, and a short routine, finishing with a teacher’s own choreographed dance. The exercises are short with basic rhythm’s concentrating on the technical articulation of footwork.

Examinations in 9 levels, plus Solo Performance Diploma.
